"Good" is Going Viral in 2013!

I turn it off.  I don’t listen because I don’t believe it.  “Poo on them” as my Grandma would say.  You can call it ignorance, you call it nievity, you call it what you will but don’t call it optimism, because to me, optimism can be a facade.  Sometimes I think we, the general population, try to be optimistic when we have a bad feeling about the way things are headed.  So we try to change fate by changing what we say, by being “optimistic” on the outside, but inside we still feel the same bad feeling, so our optimism isn’t authentic.  So my feeling about 2013 isn’t optimism, I truly have a good feeling about it.  I believe that the Universe has heard our calls for help and for change and in my heart I believe good things are coming our way.

Some of my friends and family have recently gotten new jobs, job offers and new positions within their current companies, which is super exciting for them.  And their excitement is contagious.   In fact, I believe that their excitement will spark excitement with others, spreading like a virus (only it’s a good virus instead of a bad virus) making excitement and positive energy go viral.

I have a good feeling about other friends and family as well.  People who really struggled in 2012 or people who took jobs just to have a job instead of something they really like. I have a feeling that good things are coming their way too, which is really cool!

This weekend I will start on my new adventure as well, this weekend marks the beginning of the 2013 Urban Farming Certification program.  (Woo hoo!)  So you can bet your britches that I’ll start talking dirt, er, um, I mean, soil, again very soon!  I also plan to launch some new things with my business this year that I put on the back burner in 2012 and I’m very excited about that too.  Plus, I’m leaving myself open to other opportunities that might not even be on my radar right now.

I once heard that “whatever you think, will be”.  In other words if you are negative, think doom and gloom and you have an energy of doom and gloom that doom and gloom will be brought your way, much like a magnetic force field.  But if instead you think about the positive, the what ifs, the what could bes, then you will be pulling positive energy your way and ultimately bringing those possibilities into the realm of reality.  Therefore, our thoughts really can control our destiny. Pretty cool, huh?

Last year, 2012, was a good year for me, not a bang-up year, but not bad.  There were a lot of cool things that happened (like getting chickens, for example) but I was really anxious for 2012 to end and 2013 to begin.  (Frankly, I could hardly contain myself.)

So, yes, I’m smiling on the inside and smiling on the outside because my hope for you and for all of us this year is that if you haven’t already, that you feel the vibration…. catch the excitement, catch the “good” that’s going around because my prediction is that “good” is going viral in 2013.  Kate

Art Forms: 75 Years of Arts Education

June 21-September 30

On July 11th, 1938, an eight-year old boy by the name of Alfred Cohen celebrated a major accomplishment: 40 of his paintings were put on display in what became the first one-man exhibition of children’s art created in free art classes run by the Works Progress Administration’s Federal Art Project. Describing his prized apprentice, Leon Bibel, an art teacher at the Bronx House, said, “He turns out three paintings a day, unless discouraged, and never is at a loss for a subject.”

74 years later, the Children’s Museum of the Arts is pleased to give Alfred another opportunity to exhibit his artworks; this time a set of linograph prints, also created at the Bronx House and also under the tutelage of art teacher, Leon Bibel.

The artworks are part of a larger exhibition titled Art Forms, which explores historical and contemporary modes of art education, as well as the ways in which students and teachers inspire each other.

Art Forms examines the relationship of the art educator and the young artist by showcasing three intertwined elements that reveal the lifeblood of CMA’s mission and philosophy: current children’s artwork created in CMA’s 2011-2012 public school partnerships, artwork by the Teaching Artists who educated the students, and antique children’s artwork from CMA’s Permanent Collection dating back to the 1930s.

CMA would like to acknowledge the following public schools participating in Art Forms: PS 347 American Sign Language and English Lower School; PS 124 The Yung Wing School; PS 130 The Hernando DeSoto School; PS 158 The Bayard Taylor School; PS 3 Charrette School; Kings Collegiate Charter School; The Renaissance Charter School; Immigrant Social Services at PS 130; Williamsburg Collegiate Charter School; PS 115 Daniel Mucatel School; PS 29 John Harrigan School; PS 243 The Weeksville School; PS 116 The Mary Lindley Murray School; The Urban Assembly New York Harbor School, and MS 413 School of the Future.

Died: 6 January 1919, Oyster Bay, NY, USA

Residence at the time of the award: USA

Role: Collaborator of various peace treaties, President of United States of America

Biography

Theodore Roosevelt (October 27, 1858–January 6,

1919) was born in New York into one of the old Dutch families

which had settled in America in the seventeenth century. At

eighteen he entered Harvard College and spent four years there,

dividing his time between books and sport and excelling at both.

After leaving Harvard he studied in Germany for almost a year and

then immediately entered politics. He was elected to the Assembly

of New York State, holding office for three years and

distinguishing himself as an ardent reformer.

In 1884, because of ill health and the death of his wife,

Roosevelt abandoned his political work for some time. He invested

part of the fortune he had inherited from his father in a cattle

ranch in the Badlands of Dakota Territory, expecting to remain in

the West for many years. He became a passionate hunter,

especially of big game, and an ardent believer in the wild

outdoor life which brought him health and strength. In 1886

Roosevelt returned to New York, married again, and once more

plunged into politics.

President Harrison, after his election in

1889, appointed Roosevelt as a member of the Civil Service

Commission of which he later became president. This office he

retained until 1895 when he undertook the direction of the Police

Department of New York City. In 1897 he joined President McKinley‘s administration as assistant

secretary of the Navy. While in this office he actively prepared

for the Cuban War, which he saw was coming, and when it broke out

in 1898, went to Cuba as lieutenant colonel of a regiment of

volunteer cavalry, which he himself had raised among the hunters

and cowboys of the West. He won great fame as leader of these

«Rough-Riders», whose story he told in one of his most

popular books.

Elected governor of the state of New York in 1898, he invested

his two-year administration with the vigorous and businesslike

characteristics which were his hallmark. He wou

Green Marketing Strategy

Create an Effective Green Marketing Strategy

Choosing the right green marketing strategy begins with reaching Behavioral Greens, the approximately 62 million Americans who think and act “Green,” hold negative attitudes toward products that pollute, incorporate Green practices regularly and include Green as one of their purchasing criteria. A portion of purchases typically go to environmental causes, and they are likely to buy from an ecofriendly company.

Behavioral Greens tend to be optimistic and have traditional values. They are concerned for their own health while balancing career and personal interests. Family is important to them, but their children are out of the house so they focus on relaxing and maintaining healthy living. Some Behavioral Greens are entering retirement and enjoying a new chapter in life.

Segment Snapshot

Mature adults and retirees

College graduate or higher degree

Above-average income

Typically own their homes

Liberal

Shopping Behavior – brand loyalists, knowledgeable consumers and approval seekers

Leisure – yoga, tennis, skin diving, snorkeling, backpacking, hiking, museums and traveling

Geography – Northeast, New England, New York Metro, Greater Los Angeles and Mid-Atlantic

The chart below shows that among U.S. adults over the past four years, the number of Behavioral Greens has increased and now represents 31 percent of the total population.

When you can categorize consumers by their degree of Green activity, your Green marketing strategy will thrive.

What Behavioral Green consumers believe

There are not enough ecofriendly products available

It is important to be seen as environmentally conscious

Companies should help consumers become more environmentally responsible

How to reach them – This group tends to be more receptive to traditional advertising than any of the other GreenAwareSM segments. Behavioral Greens maintain that they remember ads when shopping, that advertising can help them learn about available products and that they expect advertising to be interesting.
