The YOLO Effect…

You only live once  Forgive me for overworking the YOLO cliché, but I’ve got something to say that I know will help you live a little better.  If you think about how many times people use that cliché and it’s context, you’ll find something very interesting.  Almost every time we say it, we are making some reference to getting rid of our fear of doing something with a complimentary urge to “do it” right now.  We are saying that life is too short to not do the things you really want to do.  So, as you can imagine, that got me thinking

How much time do you spend doing things you really don’t want to do?  Or, how many things do you do because you think they are what others expect you to do?  Or, stated in the positive, do you spend most of your time doing the things you enjoy doing; have passion about and want to do?  And of course closely related to those questions, why are you doing the things you are doing?

As I’ve said a hundred times prior, this ol’ world funnels us into well-worn grooves of expectations!  The subtle and not so subtle message is to get in line; shut your mouth and don’t buck the system.  Do acceptable work; make acceptable comments; have acceptable opinions (not your own opinions, but the popular ones) and for goodness sakes, don’t start questioning things.  If a thing doesn’t make sense to you, it’s not because it doesn’t make sense, but rather because you don’t understand it – so again, close your mouth and get in agreement (now!).  The problem with that “go-along to get-along” mindset is that you no longer get to be “you” in the process.  Now on the surface, you may not think this applies to you, so I ask you, give it a little more thought.

People are employed in a line of work they hate, for decades.  Folks are suppressed in unhealthy relationships or subjecting themselves to unhealthy family members for a lifetime.  We laugh when it’s not funny.  We say the food tastes good when it doesn’t.  We nod in agreement to insane political ideas when those views couldn’t be further from our own.  We don’t play the music we like when others are around.  We get college degrees in subjects we cannot stand.  We tip waiters for poor service.  We devote time to reading books we don’t enjoy.  We trudge ourselves to tired church services and participate in nonsensical observances and even pray to a God we are grossly unfamiliar with!  Why?  Because we are afraid, that’s why!  Fear, often confused with terror, is a subtle beast.  We can all recognize the fright we feel when we see a tiger, but do we acknowledge the slipperier version that causes us to do all of the above?   Why would a man work in a job he loathed for twenty years?  He’s afraid that he can’t do anything else?  He’s afraid what his family would say if he quit?  He’s afraid what society might say if he stepped out of line!  Why do folks put up with family members that are toxic and discourage their growth?  Because they are afraid what everyone would think if they stopped coming around.  Fear.  (disclaimer – this does not refer to my family- :-) )  We agree, we cajole, we acquiesce, we agree because we’re so friendly?  Probably not when you get right down to it.  Fear drives a multitude of things we feel obligated to do.  Then there is obligation’s close companion – guilt.  Guilt is just another form of fear manifesting itself as something you need to do because of something you didn’t do; should have done; or to avoid something because of what you did do (or perceive you might have done)!  Fear…

I’m certainly not advocating morphing into a self-centered douche, parading around town looking out for number one only!  I’m suggesting rather that you take the time to consider why you do the things you do.  There really are only two great motives in life – love and fear.  Love works no ill to its neighbor (or to you either for that matter)  Fear starts bad, proceeds bad, and ends bad.  Working out of fear leads to misery.  Working out of love fans the flames of passion.  Saying how you feel out of love leads to understanding and agreement and resolution.  Saying how you feel out of fear leads to arguments and conflict.  Doing things for other people out of love is the very heart of service.  Doing things for people out of fear leads to slavery and bondage and all kinds of mistreatment.

So the simple acid test is to ask yourself why you are doing the thing that you are doing.  Do you want to do it?  If you had a million bucks would you do it?  I’m sure we all have the fantasy of all the wonderful things we would do if we just became rich enough to do it.  And the reason we cannot do it now?  Fear…  And while you are asking yourself these things in the solemn privacy of your mind, take solace in the truth that you can change anything you want to change.  Sure folks will deride you and chastise you and demand you get back to being who you are supposed to be!  But what you owe yourself is to be the “you” you really want to be!  Don’t you think?  People live frustrated, defeated, unsatisfied lives because they spend their precious lives living as someone else. Don’t let that be you, my friend.

Cliche’ alert – At the end of the day, we all have only one life to live and we all only live once (on earth anyway).  Start today by asking yourself why and then get busy modifying and changing what needs to change.  You oughta be able to be “you,” doing “you” in the ways that make “you” the most happy!  YOLO my friends, YOLO!

Just some good thoughts…

I Love You

Image

Although this picture is self-explanatory, I wanted to take a bit of time to expand on it. None of us really know when our time or that of our loved ones will be up on planet Earth, when our time to cross over and become fully that which we are and be with our other loved ones will come. But this post isn’t intended to be about the death of our physical selves. Nor is it intended to be a “downer.” But the quote above is an important reminder because it is true and it’s something some of us unintentionally take for granted. Many of us just assume we will get a chance tomorrow, the next day after that and so on and so forth.

The message I do want to share today is the importance of not only living each day to the fullest, but to tell our loved ones we care about them and show them how much they mean to us. Don’t go to bed angry. Apologize because you value your relationship with that person more than you value being “right.” Say “I love you” often. Hug even more. Embrace your emotions and don’t shy away from expressing them. Live in the moment, be present in the now, create memories that will last forever because now is all we really know we have. The past is over and the future hasn’t happened.

Using your words to tell a person how much you care about them is important and has value, I’m stating the obvious here. But showing someone with your actions is even more important. Talk is cheap. We’ve heard that before but there is much more value in what you do than in what you say. This doesn’t just apply to matters of the heart. It’s easy to say things; it requires a genuine effort to follow up your words with actions. And actions don’t have to be grand gestures of proclaiming your love for someone. They can be, absolutely but it’s not necessary. I think many people can attest to the fact that it’s the little things take up the most room in their hearts.

Who have you told today how much you love and appreciate them? What have you done to shine a bit of light and love into someone’s life? Spread some love today, if you haven’t already and continue to do so all the days of this life – if not only because tomorrow isn’t promised but because you know how much it warms your heart and soul when you feel the love from someone you care about. People will never forget how you make them feel so why wouldn’t you want to be the catalyst for warming the heart of someone else?

It’s not easy being green

go green with the Green Marketing CompanyIt’s not easy being green
Judith Lam Tang, www.juicygreenmom.ca

Green living is something I have been learning more about over the years. When I was a kid, I remember the blue box for recycling being a new thing, and I had my own Kids for Saving Earth club. We did a rainforest walkathon to save however many acres of rainforest (I wonder if those acres are still there??). As I grew up into a young adult, I was leaning more to the greener side of the spectrum of green, but I didn’t actively search out information. Things can sure change in a heartbeat, though! My sister (5 years older than me) was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 31, and we had no history of it in our family. She is my only sibling and my best friend, so it was a huge shock. When she started learning about lifestyle changes to prevent the cancer from coming back, I jumped on board with her. It was overwhelming how much I didn’t know about what was in my food, my skincare products, my cleaning products, my clothes, my bedding, and so on. My sister did a huge purge of her stuff and started seeking out natural and organic products, and slowly I did the same. I started reading labels and keeping those lists of ingredients to avoid in my wallet. It was a steep learning curve, and still is.

When I became pregnant, I worried a lot about what I was doing for the development of my baby. My mother-in-law also had breast cancer in the past, so the fact that my child would have a history of it from both sides of the family was always in the back of my mind. It scared me. But it also inspired me. Because it was an opportunity to have a clean slate. I can’t control all of the things I ingested and was exposed to since I was born – so there are chemicals and toxins in me that will stay there. But with a brand new baby – I would be the one to control what she ingested and what she was exposed to (to a certain point, of course). So when I started thinking about baby cribs and furniture and bedding I started doing research on what was safe. Adria Vasil’s Ecoholic book was a great resource and starting point. And then I started looking at baby soaps and lotions and diaper creams. And on it went. It was a whole new world of learning for me, and it was definitely overwhelming a lot of the time. But it was also empowering to know that I could become informed, and make decisions that made me feel good about what I would be giving my baby.

I wasn’t the greenest mother-to-be or mother. There were things that I couldn’t give up, or couldn’t afford, or just didn’t know about until later. But it’s a lifelong learning process, isn’t it? Being a mommy is a learning process, and learning to live a green lifestyle is too. My child doesn’t eat organic at every meal, but I do my best to give her organic whenever possible. She was at someone’s house once and was offered some Bits and Bites. When I looked at the ingredients, I was shocked to find MSG in there. She had already ingested it! Argh! I didn’t stop it in time!

Living greener can be daunting, because the more I learn about things, the more I learn that things are complicated. But it isn’t impossible. And as cliche as it may be, every little bit does help. Every time I get organic strawberries is one less exposure my daughter has to pesticides. Every time I get cereal with a non-GMO label is one less exposure to GMOs. We have so many opportunities, so many moments of the day where we can choose to be just a little bit greener. And it’s pretty amazing what’s going on with blogging and social media to help inform people and raise awareness about what choices to make. So it’s not easy being green… but it can be. We just have to try.

The Real Reason Hemp Is illegal

hempThe drug war was created by those that profit from war.

Live your life and make good choices.  End the blood shed and legalize marijuana.   How many legal substances will give you a buzz? Hemp/marijuana is not illegal because you get a buzz.  The legalization of hemp would simply take money out of the pockets of those that lobbied to make it illegal.  Take a good hard look at the information below and make an intelligent decision.

The powers that created the drug war are those that profit from war and the drug war will never end until we take a stand and say, “Enough!”

If you could legally grow marijuana in your back yard, people would not be getting shot in the cross fire of drug smugglers, so wake up and get a clue!  Watch the video and discover the real reason hemp is illegal and the many fascinating industrial applications.

Share this with everyone you know and make a difference.  This is not the information you will find in main stream media or in your church bulletin.  We are THE GOOD WORD and we stand for truth!  Take Action Now!

THE REAL REASON CANNABIS HAS BEEN OUTLAWED HAS NOTHING
TO DO WITH ITS EFFECTS ON THE MIND AND BODY.

MARIJUANA is DANGEROUS. Pot is NOT harmful to the human body or mind. Marijuana does NOT pose a threat to the general public. Marijuana is very much a danger to the oil companies, alcohol, tobacco industries and a large number of chemical corporations. Various big businesses, with plenty of dollars and influence, have suppressed the truth from the people.

The truth is if marijuana was utilized for its vast array of commercial products, it would create an industrial atomic bomb! Entrepreneurs have not been educated on the product potential of pot. The super rich have conspired to spread misinformation about an extremely versatile plant that, if used properly, would ruin their companies.

Where did the word ‘marijuana’ come from? In the mid 1930s, the M-word was created to tarnish the good image and phenomenal history of the hemp plant…as you will read. The facts cited here, with references, are generally verifiable in the Encyclopedia Britannica which was printed on hemp paper for 150 years:

* All schoolbooks were made from hemp or flax paper until the 1880s; Hemp Paper Reconsidered, Jack Frazier, 1974.

* It was LEGAL TO PAY TAXES WITH HEMP in America from 1631 until the early 1800s; LA Times, Aug. 12, 1981.

* REFUSING TO GROW HEMP in America during the 17th and 18th Centuries WAS AGAINST THE LAW! You could be jailed in Virginia for refusing to grow hemp from 1763 to 1769; Hemp in Colonial Virginia, G. M. Herdon.  VIA Illuminati News

Escaping the Clutches of Fear…

Peace

Peace

I’ll bet you didn’t know that there was a way to think properly, did you?  You would think that as “thinking” beings we would have this all figured out by now.  There’s just one problem however.  We can all think anything we want, but not everything we think is good or beneficial to us.  In fact, the natural (so called) way to think starts with fear, feeds on fear and ends with fear!  The world around us is drowning in a sea of fear.  Problem is, it’s so prevalent that folks hardly recognize it anymore.  Thoughts of doubt, worry, fear, and anxiety hold us in a mental prison.  A prison that gets more and more confined, the more we entertain those fears.

Now just think about that for a second…In order for fear to get a hold on us we have to consciously entertain that fear.  Translated that means you first think of some awful possibility (that hasn’t happened yet), then because it scared you, you feel like you have to hold on to that thought.  In fact, sometimes you might even forget about it for a minute, then hurry up and remind yourself about what was bothering you, then bring it back up again.  Did you ever stop to consider why we do this?  Well, I’ll tell you why (smile).  We do it because we are just sure we can figure the thing out if we give it enough thought.  The problem with that approach is that as you try and try and try to reason the thing out, it gains a deeper and tighter hold on you.  Newsflash folks!  You ain’t going to figure it out.  That fear has its basis in something outside of you.  And, that something knows you aren’t going to figure it out and because of that takes advantage of you.  At the end of the day, fear is spiritual in nature.  It comes from that opposing force that seeks to enslave you.  Sadly, when you give it space, it will eat you alive.

So, how can you escape?  How can you get to the place where you can take that first breath of “fear-free” air?  Trust me, when the fear is finally gone from your thinking, life takes on a whole new light.  All of those possibilities you dreamed of when you were young come back into focus.  Instead of being woefully distracted, you become alive, dynamic and full of energy to do what you want to do!  So, the simple answer is refuse to think it.  Refuse to entertain the evil thought.  Refuse to try to figure it out.  Tell your finite human logic, your ego, that the solution to this situation is not what it seems.

Let it go…  The predominant message in the Bible is, “fear not!”  Maybe God knows a thing or two about fear.  You might not know this, but everything we have in life comes to us via our believing.  People that enjoy success have believed for success.   People that are happy have believed to be happy.  But, here’s where it gets sticky.  Fear is also a form of believing.  That which you adamantly fear and worry about is going to come your way if you persist!  Your subconscious mind (or your heart if you prefer) is the great citadel from which your life springs forth.  If you constantly deluge your mind with fear and worry (and how can you not seeing we are engulfed in it?), those thoughts eventually filter down into your heart and produce a tangible equivalent in your life.  It shows up as sickness and disease; it shows up as lack and poverty; it shows up as defeat in any category that we allowed it to live in.  So, you my friends, must make it your number one enemy.  Don’t let it persist for a second.  Don’t play semantics and call it caution.  Don’t listen to the so-called majority, because they have been living in it for so long they couldn’t help you if they tried.  Instead try putting this “idea”  into the crucible of your experience.  It won’t be easy at first because you have developed some bad habits.  But, if you persist, I mean really get determined, you will find yourself feeling an odd unusual sensation called “peace”, the kind that God wants people to enjoy…Of course there is more to this, but maybe that will be the subject of another blog!
