Angels

By R. Elmore    for the children of  Sandy Hook, Newtown, Connecticut.  12/24/12

Small Praying Angel StatueThe bride so beautiful the men all sighed,
The groom so handsome and full of pride
The wedding so perfect and all went well
A perfect start for a tale to tell
The joy from which the union brings
A throng of Angels need to sing

A sudden breath, a mother’s pain
A life of two is not the same
A child, a soul, now newly born
Is trumpeted by heavens horn
A baby, whether girl or boy
Makes all the Angels cry with joy

As children do, they grow so fast
And quickly how the time will pass
At first their every need you give
Important things in which to live
These things to learn will take a while
And as they watch, the Angels smile

So now the time has now been reached
For blessed others now to teach
And so you pray to ease the fear
So far from reach, not being near
The prayers are heard as heaven braces
The tears now flow from Angels faces

A day the same, the children smile
The terror lurking all the while
The evil breaks into the rooms
The Angels scream the cries of doom
And tears from heaven now will stream
As Angels come with open wings

The children gathered to their breast
And taken up as heavens best
Now looking from their place above
They send down their eternal love
And in your heart they’ll always be
An Angel now eternally
